教宗每月的祈禱意向：
天父，求你遣發你的聖神今天整天陪伴著我。藉著聖神的援助，讓我今天的思、言、行為都能顯現你的光榮與讚頌。請幫我與不受服事，而服事人的耶穌基督合而為一。我與聖母瑪利亞及普世教會一起為教宗的意向祈求。
耶穌聖心，我靠了瑪利亞貞潔無玷的心，將我今天的祈禱、工作、喜樂和痛苦都獻給你，為補贖我們的罪過，為成就你在祭台上時時刻刻奉獻的旨意，特別為本月內教宗託我們代禱的意向祈禱：
2009年1月份
總祈禱意向： 願家庭日益成為培養愛德、個人成長和傳遞信仰的地方。
＊. That the family might increasingly be a place of formation in charity, personal growth and the transmission of the faith.
福傳意向： 願各基督宗教合力宣揚福音，聚力團結合一，為處於瞬息萬變需要「新福傳」的世界，作更可信的見證。
＊.That Christian denominations make a concerted effort to proclaim the Good News and energetically strive for full unity so as to be more credible witnesses of the Gospel to a world in need of "a new evangelization" at this time of profound change.
